“Firmer Alien Policy”

Sir, —Your editorial, “Need For a Firmer Alien Policy,” in Monday’s "Dominion” rightly stresses the fact that no alternative service or sacrifice is in sight for the sheltered alien community. We have in our midst not only those born in New Zealand of alien parents, but also a large number of refugees “sitting pretty” at a time when thousands of New Zealanders have responded to the call to save Christian civilization.

Naturally, there exists the greatest sympathy for the genuine refugees who have been driven from their homes and’ countries, and shelter should be extended to them. Nevertheless, there should be some limitation to the “activities” and “privileges” for those of alien extraction; and refugees, many of whom are in remunerative posts while our own countrymen and women are rendering such magnificent service dictated by patriotism and sacrifice.

The thought uppermost in the minds Of all thinking find observant New Zealanders on. the honie front is expressed in ibe caption of your editorial, namely, “Need For a Firmer Alien Policy.”—l am, etc., CIYIS. Wellington, October 14.
