Vice-Regal.. Government House, WeUtagton, October 6. Yesterday morning her Excellency Lady Newall, visited the St, Mary’s Home, KarorlTheir Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Newall attended Divine Service at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul this morning.

Captain S. E. Gregory, shore superintendent of the Port Line, is visiting Auckland.The Rev. IL B. Burnett,. Otautau, has been appointed a chaplain to the forces, and will be stationed in the meantime at Walouru Camp, where he will take up his duties this month. Captain J. A, Bretherton, a Christchurch officer with the N.Z.E.F., has been promoted to the rank of major. Major Bretherton saw service in Greece and is now with an anti-air-craft unit in Egypt. The Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, Bishop of Wellington, is visiting Auckland. He preached at St. Mary S Cathedral yesterday, and the Synod sermon will be delivered by him at the opening of the Auckland Diocesan Synod today. Mr. J. Cummings, former superintendent of police in Auckland and now attached to the Commissioners ofiice at Wellington, has returned to Auckland to relieve Mr. R. R- ft rd, the recently-appointed superintendent, who. is visiting Wellington. C-intain G. Anderson, M,C., Dominion Signals Officer of the Home Guard, is in the south in the course of a tour which is being made to establish the signals organization of the Home Guard on a uniform basis throughout New Zealand. Lieutenant-Colonel Herbert A. Lord, Salvation Army commander in Malaya, who recently arrived iu New Zealand, is to undertake a tour of the southern districts in place of Commissioner J. Evan Smith, commander of tlie Salvation Army in New Zealand, who is unable to travel because of illness.
