PINK SUMMONS PAPERS

In violent contrast to the traditional “bluey,” salmon pink summonses are now being issued from the magistrates’ courts. It is believed that this is the first time any colour except blue has been used for summonses in New Zealand, but white was used during the Great War aud white has been used for summoning people to court iu civil matters aud iu matters touching the disobedience .of maintenance orders. White is used also iu by-law cases by the Wellington City Council, which has its own summons forms printed. The pink summons forms have been introduced by the Transport Department, which also prints its own forms, and as yet they have been used only in charges of not having a warrant of fitness. An officer of the department said yesterday that the only reason for the use of pink paper was a shortage of blue paper, and that it was mere chance that the last batch of forms to be printed were for use in cases of failure to have a warrant of fitness. Summonses for real criminal offences are still on blue paper, and so a policeman with a blue paper will still have some ot the significance be has had iu the past.
