OBITUARY

Mr. C. A. Norris, C.B.E. A cable has been received hi Wellington reporting the death in Melbourne of Mr. C. A. Norris, C.8.E., F.1.A., < general manager and actuary of the National Mutual Life Association of Australasia, Ltd. Mr. Norris, who was aged 66, had spent 50 years in the service of the association, being appointed general manager and actuary in 1035. His outstanding financial knowledge was called on by the Australian Federal and Victorian State Governments on several occasions. He was a commissioner of the Victorian State Electricity Commission, and for his distinguished public services was created Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1937. In March, 1937, Mr. Norris paid a brief visit to New Zealand. Mr. Francis Brady A pioneer, Mr. Francis Brady, dipd on Wednesday, aged b 6. Mr. Brady was brought to New Zealand from Australia by his parents when he was six months old. His father was a retired Indian Civil Service official, who was drowned in a yachting accident in Manakau Harbour. His mother was the first matron and dispenser at the Auckland Hospital. Mr. Brady bad an adventurous career in the early days of New Zealand. During the Hau-Hau disturbance he was recruited in Gisborne for von Tempsky’s battalion. Mr. Brady’s wife, who predeceased him, was a daughter of Lieut.-Colonel Adams, who came to New Zealand with a British Regiment in (lie late ’7o.’s

Mr. Brady is survived by three daughters and two sons, Mrs. T. M. Donovan, Mrs. R. I. Low, Mrs. G. Hart, Christchurch, and Messrs. F. and I’. L. Brady. The interment, which was private, took place yesterday morning at Kurori.
