Ten Per Cent. Increase In Month

The “New- York Times” Washington correspondent says the United States defence expenditure reached 1,172,000,000 dollars in August, nearly a 10 per cent, increase on July. At the end of August the entire programme amounted to 56,357,000,000 dollars, with British orders making a total of 60,016,000,000. Exports of war materials in July were valued at 69,000,000 dollars, compared with 48,000,000 dollars in June. Of the gain 11,500,000 dollars represented fighters and bombers.
