COPRA MARKETING

Large Quantities To Go

To Canada

Dominion Special Service.

AUCKLAND, July 28.

A statement that the copra marketing problem for many growers would be solved by arrangements which have been made for the export of large quantities to Canada was made by Sir Walter Carpenter, a well-known Sydney merchant and island trader, who is a passenger for the United States by the Monterey. Sir Walter said that on a recent visit to Canada he had established a mill for handling copra and he ex pected that the first shipment of 1500 tons would be sent from Samoa next month. The arrangements which had been made would mean that Canada would take about 50,000 tons of copra a year. This, would mean that Fiji would also be able to export a big quantity. Shipments would be made about every three months pro vided ararngements could be made foi accumulating it ready for dispatch. Prices would naturally vary accord lug to market conditions, but they would be much better than the ones the growers had been receiving through the impact of war difficulties and would be very near to the prewar ones.
