LONDON’S LULL ENDS

Raids By Luftwaffe BRITISH BOMBING RESTRICTED

LONDON, July 28.

Bad weather restricted R.A.F. operations last night, but a small force of bombers attacked the docks at Dunkirk. London was bombed for the first time for several weeks last night. Enemy raids also spread to the far east of England. Though there were a number of casualties, this morning’s Air Ministry communique says the raids were not on a heavy scale. Three enemy bombers were shot down. The greatest damage occurred in a London residential district, where 10 bombs fell on the same street and completely demolished a number of houses. Three women and three children, including a mother and son, were killed. Several persons were injured. There were also casualties in a second London area.

An Air Ministry communique issued yesterday states that during an offensive patrol over the Straits of Dover on Sunday afternoon our fighters engaged a formation of enemy fighters: One enemy plane was destroyed and several others were severely damaged but not seen to crash because of low clouds and therefore their destruction cannot be confirmed. One of our planes is missing.
