WIRELESS DIRECTION BEACON

Need At Lyttelton Heads (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 27. The need for a wireless direction beacon at Lyttelton Heads was emphasized yesterday by the master of the Rangatira, Captain B. B. Irwin. He pointed out that the Marine Department had allocated money for the beacon, which had been advocated by ship masters and others for years, bu nothing had been done. Captain Irwin said that the delay to the inter-island steamer on Friday caused by fog was only to be expected when there was no wireless direction apparatus at the heads. The at Godley Head and the whistling buoy were not sufficient to direct vessels in fogs similar to those' experienced during the' past three dajfi.
