GOVERNMENT STOCKS

London Market Prices

(By Telegraph.—Press . Assn.—Copy right.) LONDON. July 24.

The following table gives the mean Stock Exchange quotations for consols and colonial inscribed stocks, compared with those of July 17:— Price. . Variation.

Raw Materials (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received July 27, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 26. Friday’s closing prices for the following commodities, with those for the previous week in parentheses, are as follows : — , Rubber: Para, 17d. a lb. (same}; plantation smoked ribbed sheet, 13 7-16 d. a lb. (not quoted). Turpentine: 68/6 a cwt. (same). Linseed oil: The price is still fixed at £4l/10/- a ton. Gold Mining Returns (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, July 26. The Argo dredge returned 430 z. for 124 hours, from 9000 yards. The Golden Sands return totalled 390 z. for GO shifts. The 1 Snowy River dredge returned 1590 z. for 124 hours from 26,200 yards. Canterbury Produce Markets (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 25. A reaction to the heavy shipments of potatoes to Auckland last week has been manifested in Canterbury this week by the complete absence of auy interest in the market. Values have not moved down simply because there has been no business to warrant a price being paid. The trade here is unlikely to do auy buying unless there are orders in hand. The situation will be further affected next week when another ship is due to sail for Auckland. No indication is given of the quantity likely to be lifted but it is believed that it will again be fairly substantial. Possibly because it has been so lifeless the market has not reacted to the flutter in the House of Representatives on imports from Australia. The usual midwinter demand for chaff has not set in and the market, strangely enough for July, has weakened to about £3/10/- on trucks. All other markets are quiet.
