NEW WORLD ORDER

Conditions That Would Make It Possible

ADDRESS BY DR. KOO

The youth of the whole world was deeply concerned at present as to what was going to happen after the war, said the travelling secretary of the World Student Christian Federation, Dr. T. Z. Koo. speaking to an audience of nearly 3000 at a youth rally in the Town Hall, Wellington, yesterday afternoon, under the auspices of the Wellington Christian Youth Council. In his travels in various parts of the world he had noticed a growing enthusiasm on the part of youth to bring about a better order, he said, and the special message he had for young people in New Zealand was that a more l>eaceful world order would never be brought about merely by thinking peace, but by conscious effort toward making peace. “It is not sufficient just to wish for peace,” he added. “We must remember that Christ did not say ‘blessed are the peace wishers,’ but ‘blessed are the peacemakers.’ How many of us are really peacemakers in the sense of creating those conditions that make pence possible?” The youth of the world was conscious today that the crisis which was making many people slaves must eventuallv lead to a new world order. The precious heritage of Christianity was becoming more prominent in their minds, and they were realizing more than ever before that, as Christians, thev must learn to love their fellows, and that all men must belong to each other. Some of the conditions which would make world peace possible were the sharing of the world’s natural resources, the building up of better social conditions and the creating and maintaining of good fellowship and trust among nations. “How I hope that all the young people of this country, my country (China) and all the countries of the world will work toward this great move for international peace,” said Dr. Koo. “As young people working for the future, please remember that we, as Christians, must not only work to attain the visible and physical things that go toward making peace, but also to attain the spiritual things. A wise man builds his house on a foundation of rock, and his house stands firm against the ravages of tempest and rain. Similarly with this building up of a better order for the world of the future. The foundation of rock is our Christian faith. Let the powers of peace be built on a foundation of rock —the rock of Christ.” Devotions were conducted by the Rev. L. A. North. The chairman of the Wellington branch of the Student Christian Movement, Mr. T. C. Brash, presided. Musical items were given by the Salvation Army Wellington Citadel Band, and Mr. C. Howe played the organ.
