Good fields are engaged for the opening of the Otaki Maori Racing Club’s winter meeting today. The weather appears set fair and the going will be in excellent order. . The principal race, the llaukuwa Handicap, lias drawn a field of seven, of whom two, Trench Law and Sanction, are engaged later. tVith the exception of the topweight, Sir Crusoe, who has not recently run to his-best, the remainder have been responsible for likely efforts and the two promoted hacks. Beau Ciel and Young Charles, as well as The Monarch, are among the favoured lot. Sir Crusoe will be back on his home training ground and he may run better under these conditions. , There is a strong field in the second leg, the Huia Handicap, where the Ilawera form of Noble Fox. Surveyor-Gen-eral, Endorsement and Night Eruption will attract attention. The Wanganui winner, Mittie, wit] also have friends. There are no brackets and betting wul be win and place.
