A BID FOR FAME

ff’RMl BUYS AND GIRLS, This is announcing Me. 1 really did not mean to start quite like that, but then, this is my first appearance in print, and you cannot expect too much from a cat. just because he has nine lives. Anyhow, lam here at last, and this is AIY part of the Page. It is about time a cat like me had a chance to make himself knoivn. What with all these cat stories cropping up in the mailbag, and cats being enrolled as Leaguers—Sally's “Binkie" and Golden Arrow's “Smutty." and Snow Fairy's brigade of farm cats—to say nothing of the way Leaguers like Smiler and Dad’s Cobber simply dote on Mr. Patterson’s eartoon cats. Some cats have all the luck. That's what 1 said to Kiwi. And 1 used my most appealing look and drooped my tail dejectedly. (I had been practising Miserable Expressions fora long time). She seemed genuinely upset, so when I suggested, quite modestly of course that I should have a little space for myself, she stopped biting her pencil—which is a good sign—and it was then that I took the plunge. I leapt boldly across the heater, curled myself upon a stack of papers and said, with a sudden thrust of the head. “How about me ‘taking over’ this week?’’

When she said '‘Yes,’’ I swished my tail with sheer joy. and suddenly, and quite unexpectedly, found myself mixed up among some star points.

Kiwi should not be so careless. Leaving them lying around like that! Well, it is right and proper that an alley cat should get a look in, and now that 1 have made my debut, and, become a Page Personage. I shall say Cheerio (Just like Kiwi!) Yours with an affectionate whisker flick,
