MOTOR VEHICLES
Reduction On Last Year
The Postmaster-General, Mr. Webb, stated yesterday that 311,641 motor vehicles had been licensed for the current year up to March 31 last, this total being only 3879 (or 1.22 per cent.) less than at the corresponding date in 1940.
The number of cars licensed at the end of March was 215,516, a decrease of 4422 (or 2.01 per cent.) compared with 1940. The commercial vehicle licenced, which totalled 77,849, were higher by 1463 (or 1.92 per cent.) compared with those for the previous year. The motor-cycle licences totalled 18,276, which was a decline of 925 (or 4.81 per cent.).
