VALUE OF MORALE

Half Sacrifices Held Not Sufficient

Taking as his text the words of the prophet Jahazil to Klug Jehosaphat, “Be not afraid or dismayed by reason of this great multitude: for the battle is not yours, but God’s,” Mr. E. M. Bardsley spoke at the Citizens’ Intercessory Service in Wellington yesterday ou the necessity for people being fully Christian and on God’s side in the present world struggle. "The battle is God’s only as He sees that we are willing to help Him, and we are not helping Him to the full unless as individuals we recognize and serve Him as the supreme ruler of our every-day lives,” said Mr. Bardsley. “He wants full surrender, not half. Just as half-sacrifice will not win this total war on the material side, neither will it on the spiritual side —some of our pleasures must go, more. of our time and much of our pride, it has been said that the strength of a nation is the morale of its people and, that being so, then the secret of high morale lies in the victory of the individual over personal selfishness. Let us then, churchgoer and non-churchgoer alike, strive earnestly toward this position of high morale and to live more closely to His teachings, as we know very well within our heart of hearts that ’we should, for then, and only then, the battle will truly be God’s and the victory of which we are even now sure will be ours the more completely and quickly.”
