ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The practice of making each meeting open to the public was commendable, in that it opened up many aspects of a subject, with the consequent various opinions and solutions, said the president of the Wellington branch of the Economic Society of Australia and New Zealand, Mr. G. Lawn, at the annual general meeting. It had the disadvantage. however, that it did not permit detailed expert examination of the question under consideration and it was from this detailed analysis that the best results "Would come, as expert opinions could be studied and analysed and more useful decisions reached. Mr. Lawn also drew attention to the fact that there was much that could be done by a group such as the society in examining and reporting on some of the many present and prospective economic problems. , The meeting recommended to the incoming council that the question of a number of meetings for such detailed discussion by the members be considered and that, in addition to any public meetings, provision be made for a numbef of members’ meetings. Resolutions were adopted providing for the creation of an honorary membership for members on active service with His Majesty’s forces, also a special membership for students at Victoria University College.
The following officers were elected for the 1941-42 session;—President, Mr. G. Lawn; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. M. A. Hott and 11. L. Wise; council, Dr, A. R. F. Mac Kay, Dr. W. B. Sntch, Messrs. J.
