Concert for Eastbourne Princess. The Eastbourne Lyric Singers recently gave a most enjoyable concert in aid of the Eastbourne Princess (Miss Joyce Macklin) in connexion with the Hutt Valley Victory Queen effort. The singers had as guest conductor Mr. Frank Bryan-, conductor of the Hutt Valley Liedertafel, and under his baton they rendered many delightful part songs, including a choral fantasia on national airs. This concludes with a spirited setting of "Rule Britannia,” and it so stirred the audience that they spontaneously rose and joined in the singing of it. In addition, there were songs and other items by Mr. Bryant, Mrs. H. M. Stuart, Mr. Joseph Miller, Mrs. 11. Metrehem (violin), Mr. Paul Magill (piano) and Mr. Henry Rudolph ( saxophone >. Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary.

A tribute to the late Sir Charles Luke, who always took an active interest in their work, was paid by members of the Wellington Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary at their last meeting. Mrs. O’Leary presided. Reports received showed that the regular visits both to lonely patients and also to Great War and present war members of the various fighting services, are regularly attended to. Warm garments for needy patients had been provided and gifts of Ovaltine were gratefully received by the almoner. A number of new books had been bought for the library—another branch of the auxiliary work which is never neglected.

Foxton Women’s Emergency Corps. The members of the Foxton Women’s Emergency Corps have been meeting every Thursday afternoon, and as a result of their work and also the efforts of other women’s organizations, it has been possible to forward another parcel to the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council. The last parcel dispatched included 16 sets, comprising scarf, mittens and balaclava, and 41 hussifs. Miss B. Speirs also contributed eight pairs of furlined gloves for the use of the men on minesweepers. These gloves were made from old fur coats, and if anyone has oid fur available for this purpose the corps will, if notified, make the necessary arrangements for the cutting out of the gloves.

Three Brides-Elect Honoured. Three junior members of the Victoria League who are to be married shortly were the guests of their fellow-mem-bers at a buffet tea in the league’s rooms last night. They were Misses Hilda 'Webster, who will leave soon for Ireland, where her marriage will take place: Hilda Briggs, who will be married in Australia, and Marjorie Osborne, whose marriage will take place in 'Wellington.

' The president, Mrs. J. A. Doctor, presented each of the brides-elect with gifts and expressed the best, wishes for their future happiness on behalf of the members of the league. The girls each replied, aud those present sang “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” The rooms were beautifully decorated with gold nasturtiums, marigolds and autumn berries. Maori Patriotic Effort.

Making their first public appeal, the Maori Girls’ Club held a “bring-and-buy” at Te Tatau O Te Po, the Maori hall in Lower Hutt, recently. The president of the club, Mrs. Hapi Love, in opening the effort, welcomed the guests, and stated that, parcels were forwarded monthly to Maori soldiers serving overseas. Mrs. Gibson Young spoke of her travels in the East and England. Vocal items were presented by Mrs. O. M. Shakespeare and Mrs. Rio Love, Mr. and Miss R. Dick. Mr. J. Morbie being the accompanist. The many stalls were well stocked and did brisk business. The committee responsible for the effort comprised Mrs. Hapi Love, president; Mrs. Rio Love, secretary; Mrs. M. Love, treasurer; Mesdames M. Everson, G. Te Waari, E. Lyel. The stalls were supervised by committee members with the addition of Mrs. Parata Olsen and Mrs. O. M. Shakespeare.
