IMPORTANT SUPPLIES EXCHANGED

Turkish-German Agreement

(Received April 29, 10.20 p.m.) LONDON, April 28. ‘‘Tiie Times’’ correspondent on the German frontier says that the Turkish German trade agreement which was signed at the weekend, envisages deliveries each way of additional goods of a value of 3,000,000 Turkish pounds, not 300,000, as,cabled yesterday. The deal is comparatively small, but the products have a key importance, and the political aspects are not negligible. The agreement is on a barter basis between private firms, and it supplements the official clearing agreement, which is inadequate to meet the Turkish import needs. Attempts to increase Turkish imports from America have been disappointing, due to the inadequacy of the Iraq railways. The Germans will supply pharmaceutical materials, chemicals. paper and machinery, and the Turks will supply tobacco and agricultural products. . Turkey and Hungary have initialled an agreement to a value of 20,000,000 Turkish pounds whereby Turkey export’s cotton wool in exchange for industrial products.
