Increase In Wellington SEASON’S RESULTS •

Average 20/- A Bale Higher

The total gross proceeds of the wool appraised in Wellington during the current season amounted to £2, 092,151/6/4, the highest figure for several years. There were five appraisements, the first in November and the final in March, and the total quantity of wool sold was 108,170 bales. The average price a bale for the five appraisements was £l9/6/10, compared with £lB/6/11 for the 1939-40 season.

At the first appraisement on November 8, 5857 bales were disposed of, the gross proceeds being £112,084/13/4, an average of £l9/2/9 a bale. A total of 11,198 bales was disposed of in the second appraisement on December 2, the gross proceeds being £220,132/17/6, an average of £l9/13/2 a bale. Another appraisement on December 20 disposed of 27,338 bales, realizing £541,185 16/10, an average of £l9/16/2 a bale. The appraisement of January 31 disposed of 33,984 bales,, the gross proceeds being £669,856/18/8, an average of £l9/14/2 a bale. The fifth and final appraisement of March 24 saw 29,793 bales sold, the gross proceeds being £548,591, an average of £lB/8/3 a bale. The gross proceeds of the wool sold in Wellington by auction in 1938-39, and under the Government appraisement since then, are compared in the following table:— 1938-39 1939-40 ' 1940-41
