FARMERS WHO GREW LINEN FLAX

Payment Of Guarantee

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 28. A total of £65,000 has been received in the last few weeks by farmers in tbe South Island who have grown linen flax. Tbe.payment represents the £5 an acre guaranteed to every farmer who undertook to grow flax and will be followed shortly by another payment aggregating 80 per cent, of the value of that portion of the crop which has been accepted for fibre. The payment was due today, but because of an entirely unforeseen difficulty in estimating the weight of straw in stacks on farms, it will probably lie a month before every farmer lias received his cheque, though first payments will be made within a few days.
