Australian Regulation On Subversion (Received March 28, 5 p.m.) CANBERRA, March 28. Regulation 42a, which gave the Commonwealth Government wide powers to deal with subversive statements, has been repealed and a less stringent regulation substituted. The new regulation modifies the definition of “subversive statement” and the clause prohibiting the prejudicing of financial measures taken by the Federal Government has been recast. Statements of a disloyal or unpatriotic nature and those relating to disorl ganizatlon of the transport services are, , no longer defined as subversive, j A subversive statement is defined now as any statement intended or likely to interfere witli the national war effort, to undermine public confidence in the currency or securities of the Commonwealth or any State or to I prejudice the successful flotation of 1 any Commonwealth loan during the war.
