VICTORY CARNIVAL
Tennis Tournament For Woburn Princess Many social events have taken place recently at Lower Hutt in honour of Miss Joy August, the Woburn princess in the Victory Queen Carnival. The tenuis section of the Hutt Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club held a tournament to further the interests of “Princess Joy,” which was largely attended and keenly contested. Mrs. Smith was the winner, with Miss Stellin as runner-up.- Among those present were the mayoress of Lower Hutt, Mrs. J. W. Andrews, Mrs. Walter Nash and Mrs. J. Mitchell, wife of the deputy-mayor. Another novel means of swelling the funds was a jolly entertainment by town friends, who, with their guitars and ukuleles, patrolled the Hutt in a lorry, while the ‘‘princess” solicited support from Hutt business men.
