Two Garden Parties This Afternoon
Two garden parties in connexion with the Wellington Victory Queen Carnival will be held this afternoon, one in support of Miss Janet Blackley, a princess attending the Hutt Valley Queen, Mrs. E. T. W Love, and the other for the Eighting Services Queen, Sister Molly Hahoney, A carnival in support of Miss AiJsa Ramsden, another princess attending Mrs. Love, will also be held. Heretaunga Party.— Early this afternoon Mr. and Mrs. S. Blackley will throw open the grounds of their beautiful home at Heretaunga for a garden party, to be followed in the evening by a carnival. The effort is arranged by the committee working for Miss Janet Blackley, one of the princesses attending the Hutt Valley Queen. Lowry Bay Party.—A garden party to well the funds of the Fighting Services Queen. Sister Molly Mahoney, will be held this afternoon at the residence of ’Air Commodore . and Mrs. H. IV. L. Saunders. Lowry Bay. It will be opened officially at 2.30 o’clock by the Air Force Princess, Miss Thelma Jones. Those who attend will be able to’enjoy swimming, boating, tenis and putting, as well ns enter into the fun of sideshows. The Air Force orchestra will play. Buses will leave Air Headquarters, Featherston Street, at 1.30 and 2 o’clock. Petone Carnival. —A carnival in support of the Hutt Valley Queen's princess, Miss Ailsa Ramsden, will be held on the Recreation Ground, Petone, this afternoon, beginning at 2 o’clock. Mrs. E. T. W. Love, the Hutt Valley Queen will attend. A display of interhouse girls and Maori items should prove outstanding features. A diversity of competitions for old and young has been set down. Spectacular Revue.— Trentham Camp will make its big effort for the Fighting Services Queen when it presents a bright and snappy revue in the Town Hall, Wellington, on Wednesday night. The Wellington Repertory Society’s Concert Party will assist the Trentham men, and there will be a ehorus and ballet of 40 girls. Miss Valerie Hickie is designing the wardrobe for the ballet, which is being trained by Miss Marjorie Vause. The Trentham Brass Band and the Fort Dor-
set Da bee Orchestra will play. Mr.-E. Harrison is producing the revue. Air-raid Shelter.— The Fighting Services Queen committees will be in charge of the air-raid shelter, Featherston Street, from Monday, March 17, to Saturday, March 22. Assistance is urgently required to stock the stalls during this week, and a particular appeal has been made to members of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association and their wives. Offers of services, as well as goods, will be accepted.
