TRAIN DERAILMENT
Eight Trucks Involved (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, March 7. A special goods train, mostly timber laden from Hokitika, had eight of its 33 trucks derailed near Sawyer’s Creek bridge, Greymouth, at 4.20 p.m. The eighth truck from the rear had jumped the lines 200 yards from Karoro station, loosening the rails but itself passing over the Sawyer’s Creek bridge with only three inches to spare on one edge. The following trucks spread the lines apart. The guard’s van an'd rear truck became uncoupled, partly. overturning down the bank. Three trucks of cement and two vans of perishables behind the first derailed truck broke the couplings and also left the line. None of the vehicles was greatly damaged, but the lines and sleepers require renewal, and repairs are expected to take till midday tomorrow. Meantime the railcar was unable to pass from the Hokitika side, being replaced tonight on the Midland run by steam train.
