Marlene Dietrich's New Film

Dietrich is now starring in her second picture for Universal, after her success for that company in “Destry Rides Again.” The new picture is called “Seven Sinners” and has John Wayne, Albert Dekker, Broderick Crawford, Mischa Auer, Billy Gilbert and Anna Dee in key characterizations. Marlene, herself, plays an entertainer of the South Sea Island cantinas. The central excitement in Marlene Dietrich’s life, apart from her family, is motion pictures. That is the way it has always been, since the day she started as an extra in the German studios. In free periods on the set of "Seven Sinners” she would be off in a corner with director Tay Garnett, producer Joe Pasternak, or both when possible, discussing some bit of “business,” talking about new cinema trends or suggesting story angles. Screen stars have been accused ' of reading nothing unless it contains a possible role for themselves. Marlene is not like that. She reads all the good new books, fact or fiction. “Seven Sinners;, 9 Marlene was at the studio by 7.30 for an hour and a half of fittings, hair dressing and makeup before her 9 o’clock acting call. Sometimes there would be camera portraits and publicity pictures to pose for. Between scenes she would often be knitting for war refugees, studying American history, or meeting news people.
