British Sales Of U.S. Steel Shares (By Telegraph—Press Assn.— Copyright.) (Received March 5, 7.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 4. A block of 203,127 shares of United States Steel common stock, purchased by Smith, Barney and Company from the British Treasury, was offered after the close of the Stock Exchange today at a net price of 57 dollars a share. What part of the Empire holdings was included in the distribution was not ascertained, but Australian holdings listed totalled 1702 common shares. Arahura Gold Dividend Arahura Gold Dredging, Ltd., has advised the Stock Exchange Association that the directors have declared a third dividend of 1/- a share on the ordinary and deferred shares, payable on March 22. The share transfer hooks will be closed from March 17 to 22, both days inclusive. Howard Smith Dividend Howard Smith, Limited, has advised the Stock Exchange Association that, eubject to audit, the directors recommend payment of a dividend for the half-year ended December 31 of 3 per cent, on the ordinary capital of the company, making 5 per cent, for the year. The ordinary share transfer books will be closed from March 19 to April 2, both days inclusive. The usual quarterly dividend to March 31 on the 6 per cent, cumulative preference shares will be paid on April 7.
