King Honours Chiefs In Middle East LONDON, March 4. The chiefs of the three fighting services in the Middle East have been honoured by the King in recognition of their recent successful combined operations. Tonight’s London Gazette states that the Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath has been conferred on Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham, Com-mander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet; General Sir Archibald Wavell, Commander-in-chief of the Imperial forces in the Middle East; and Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Longmore, Chief of the R.A.F., Middle East Command. Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Maitland Wilson, G.O.C. in Cyrenalca, becomes a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire, and Major-General Richard O’Connor a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath. Major-General Iven Mackay, of the Australian Forces, becomes a Knight Commander of the British Empire.
CONGRATULATIONS FROM GENERAL SMUTS
LONDON, March 5. The South African Pri,me Minister, General Smuts, visited .Kenya yesterday, and congratulated the General Officer Commanding the British Forces in East Africa, Lieutenant-General A. G. Cunningham, on the success of the Somaliland campaign.
