Greek Artillery And R.A.F. Fighters LOSSES BY ITALIANS (British Official Wireless.) (Received March 5, 7 p.m.) RUGBY* March 4. • Reports from Athens say that Greek artillery caused serious damage to the Italian lines at several points on the' Albanian front, while enemy artillery was silenced and several of their guns were destroyed. In the central sector an Italian tank was set on fire by Greek artillery. A Royal Air Force communique states that a small formation of R.A.F. fighters patrolling in the vicinity of Corfu yesterday intercepted a number of Italian bombers and shot two down into the sea. A few minutes later in the same area the fighters encountered another formation of enemy bombers of the same type, which were returning from the raid on Larissa, and three of these were also shot down. Three members of the crews were seen to bale out and drop into the sea. Bomber aircraft of the R.A.F. also attacked motor transport concentrations in the Tepelene area. The Greek Ministry of Home Security states that bombs dropped on Preveza caused small damage to property and no casualties. Other districts were also bombed , without damage or casualties.
The earthquake victims at Larissa are receiving valuable assistance from British and American services. Six thousand blankets have arrived from rhe American Relief Society, and some 150 tons of preserved food and other material has been given by the British authorities. Senior officers of the Royal Army Medical Corps have also arrived.
SYRIA ANXIOUS
(Received March 5, 10.15 p.m.) LONDON, March 4.
A message from Jerusalem states that the occupation of Bulgaria has caused anxiety in Syria, where authorities have revised military dispositions, reinforced frontier garrisons, and strengthened defence works. A checkup is being made of foreigners, 25 of whom are being expelled.
