Big Increase This Season Killings for export at the Dominion’s meat freezing works during the period October 1 till February 15 show a continued advance in the total production compared with the corresponding period of last season. The returns of the New Zealaud Meat Producers’ Board show that killings for export of all meat to February 15 totalled a,u4i)jOb-< freight carcases (North Island 4,038,662. South Island 1,506.920), an increase over last season to approximately the same date, of 821,137 freight carcasejs (South Island/484,574, North Island 336,0t>3). The increased production of lamb has been maintained since the previous returns, killings having been as follows: North Island 3,625,218,. South Island 2,253.343, total 5,878,561. The increase over last season is 865,296, to which tne South Island contributed 66a,10J, ana the North Island 200,157. Wether mutton shows a tne killings of 187,050 carcases being 2ot,lbb fewer than in the corresponding periojl ot last season. Ewe multon killings, ;>70,997, are 100,113 carcases in excess of the previous season. Frozen beef production, which is confined to the North Island, has increased by 87.702 quarters to a total this season of 147.684 quarters. Export killings of pork of all descriptions amount to 235.183 carcases, au advance of 48.158 on the previous seasou, the details being as follows (with the previous season’s figures in parentheses) : — Porkers. 25.941 (13,674) ; baconers. 200,956 (165.530) ; choppers. S2S6 (4521). Killings of other classes of meat, expressed in 601 b freight carcases,_were as follows: —Boneless beef. 154,407, a decrease of 58.010 compared withjast season ; boneless bobby veal. 84.895. an increase of 22.720; and sundries, 192.359. an increase of 41,144 freight carcases.
