LIMITED STRENGTH IN BALKANS

German Forces Estimated

LONDON, March 3.

’here have been conflicting reports about the strength of the German forces in the Balkans Well-informed circles in London believe that they may comprise 250,000 men. The German air force in support of that army is comparatively small—soo or 600 planes, made up of fighters, reconnaissance machines, and dive-bombers

German troop-carrying planes have also been transporting men to North Africa, but most of the Germans went across by sea. It is estimated that Germany has or had some 300 or 400 planes based in Sicily for attacking Britain’s Mediterranean communications. Many of these machines have been destroyed In spite of the dispersin of the German air force over Europe, it is emphasized that the bulk of it is still in northern France and the occupied countries, waiting to strike at Britain.
