Activities Of Public Services Group A draught horse derby, in Willis Street, Wellington, the steeds mounted by parliamentarians or prominent business men, a piano-piaying marathon, in which a record of 82 hours’ continuous playing wiJI be challenged, a radio day in the Town Hall, to be attended by “Jerry” of broadcast fame,.and an old-fashioned music hall evening are some of the items which the Public Services group hopes to stage in the near future in connexion with the interests of its candidate, Miss Joan Young, in the Victory Queen Carnival. Various Government departments are to hold a jumble sale next Friday, and on March 20 the combined banks and insurance companies will hold a skating evening at the Civic Skating Rink.

Arrangements for the draughthorse derby are not yet complete. It is hoped, however, that this will be held between March 29 and April 5, during which week the Public Services group will have the use of the air-raid shelter. The executive is at present occupied in finding horses and riders.

The annual football match between the Post and Telegraph Department and the police will be held on Easter Saturday, the proceeds being donated to the Queen Carnival funds. . Endeavours are being made to hold an interhouse and schools demonstration, the school children being assisted by girls from the various business houses and factories. In this effort the Public Services group will have the co-operation of the Commerce Group. A garden party to be held 'next Saturday afternoon at Air Commodore H. W. L Saunders’ residence at Lowry Bay, has been arranged by the fighting services’ queen’s organizers. The party will be opened by the Air Force princess, Miss Thelma Jones, in whose honour it has been arranged. Troops from Trentham are to make a big effort on behalf of their queen at a concert to !be held in the Town Hall; on Wednesday, March 12. They will be assisted by the Repertory Concert Party in a non-stop revue. All the talent of Trentham and the Repertory Party will be paraded. The fighting forces queen and her princesses will be present. fi’riday next is the movie queen .street day. Hunter Street will be roped off for the movie revels which will be particularly lively between noon and 2 o'clock, and from 5 to 9 o’clock in the evening. Two bands will perform and fun, song, and dance will be provided by the Darkies’ Concert Troupe and The Harbord Studio of Stars. The Boye’ Institute Silver Band will also be present. A full programme will include a motor tyre race for men, scooter races for men and boys, and a "roll ont the barrel” .contest, and mothers will be catered for in a pram-and-haby race. 7 Mr. A. J. Pascoe, of Health Supplies, Ltd., has donated a handsome biack poiiy with saddle and bridle, to be raffled in aid of the movie queen campaign. The. pony is fix'years old and is safe for children to ride.
