SEASIDE TRAFFIC

Need For Parking Space At Day’s Bay ' The chief traffic inspector of the Transport Department for the Wellington district, Mr. P. C. Watson, reported to the Hutt County Council at its monthly meeting yesterday, that traffic to seaside resorts during the month of January had been heavy, and only one accident involving injury had been reported. Thirty-three motorists had been reported to the Commissioner of Transport with a view to prosecution. Because of the restricted supply of petrol, it was noticed that Day’s Buy traffic was particularly heavy on line weekends. Parking space was a difficult problem, aud extra space could be made by means of grading water chan-. nels at various points between Point Howard and Day’s Bay. This, suggestion was forwarded with the i<leu enabling drivers of cars to park clear of the useable roadway, and it was probable that the work could be carried out with little expense. The comity overseer, Mr. E. M. Camptoll, explained that the majority of those motorists who had been reported to the Commissioner of. Transport had exceeded the speed limits within restricted areas during Wellington race week. It was possible that some motorists were not aware of areas that were restricted as to speed. It was decided to ask the Transport Department to see that the limit of 30 miles an hour was observed on the eastern bays’ road. The Wellington Automobile Association wrote stating the council's patrol officer was doing good work tit the seaside resorts, but . suggested that steps to taken to tighten up the control of traffic along the Paekakariki beach road. It was decided to take the matter up with the Transport Department.
