ATTITUDE OF AMERICA
LONDON. February 20.
The Australian Minister to Tokio. Sir John Latham, called on the Vice Foreign Minister. Mr. Ohayshi. According to the Dome! (Japanesel agency, it is generally believed that Mr. Ohayslil emphasized the need for Australian collaboration in preventing any aggravation of the situation in the Far East. The Japanese agency adds that it was thought Sir John was told that “the Far East crisis scare is groundless.” The “Yomiuri shimbun." Tokio. gives prominence to a message from its special representative in Washington, stating that Japan's withdrawal from the tripartite alliance is a United States condition for an adjustment of diplomatic relations between Japan and America.
The Berlin correspondent of the “Yomiuri Shimbun” said that Germany is watchful against Anglo-Ameri-can manoeuvres toward undermining the tripartite pact. Britain’s reinforcements for Singapore are welcomed by the New York Press and radio. The opinion is expressed that the United States should make it clear that general Japanese expansion in the Far East will not be tolerated.
