A well-known Eastbourne resident. Captain W. Reid, was entertained b.V the Eastbourne Borough Council on Thursday night, on the occasion ot ins retirement. Mrs. Reid was also a guest. Captain Reid was in t lie service ot tin. Ferry Company before its boats weie taken over by the borough council in 11*13, and continued bis service, when the company was bought out. 1* or nianj years he was a familiar figure on the bridge of various ferry boats, aud was afterward retained in the service of tile council on the wharf and in other capaciThe mayor of Eastbourne. Mr. E* WWise, said Captain Reid had been one ol tlie most conscientious and hard-working men it hud been the privilege of the con neil to employ, and the council could not let the occasion pass without saying how sorry the members were that the connexion was now being severed. Both lie and Mrs. Wise would personally, miss Captain Reid very much. II Captain Reid's son, who had taken over the service. did half ns well as his lather. I liore would be no complaints.
