E.P.S. Medical Units

PARADE AND PRACTICE

Simulating the conditions that might be met with if Wellington were raided, a full-scale rehearsal of the medical services section of the Emergency Precautions Scheme will be carried out this afternoon, after a parade of 1000 woikers at rhe Town Hall for inspection by the mayor, Mr. Hislop. The parade will take place at —-0 Pin The medical services unit will form up in Mercer Street, and, accompanied by the Boys’ Institute Silver Band, will march past the Town Hall steps, whence the mayor will take the salute. E.P.-S. volunteers, St. John Ambulance Brigade, and New Zealand ited Cross Society members, and Boy Scours will participate. After the parade, units will disperse to their stations at. the 21 advanced dressing stations in city and suburbs. Sealed envelopes will be opened, ami the conditions assumed to exist will be made known, the emergency organization responding as it would in actual practice. Dr. J. Cairney, acting-superintendent of the Wellington hospital, is Controller of Medical Services, and Mr. C. Meachen. of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, will be in charge of evacuation of hospital patients, manning advanced dressing stations, and staffing of emergency hospitals. Mr. F. Rolfe, superintendent of the Free Ambulance, will be in charge of the ambulance service.

The Wellington Free Ambulance and Women’s Emergency Transport Drivers’ Unit will co-operate. The public is invited to attend the para'de at the Town Hall.
