ALL MUST APPEAR Men Drawn In Ballots MEDICAL EXAMINATION

The Army authorities will compel any men drawn in the ballots, including conscientious objectors and others, to present themselves for medical examination, if they fail to do so without reasonable excuse.

A 'Wanganui report dealing with the failure of conscientious objectors to report for medical examination in response to notices sent to them., quoted an "Army authority” as stating that lie had no further instructions about what steps to take in such cases. Inquiries made yesterday show that, ou the contrary, all Aren Officers have been given explicit instructions. In this respect a conscientious objector is not treated differently from any other ballotee who fails to appear for examination, though as a general rule medical examination of conscientious objectors has been delayed till after their appeals against service have been disposed of. If a man fails to appear in answer to a notice requesting him to present liimself for medical examination a second notice is sent by registered post. If ther.' is still no appearance, the Area C’liicor concerned is required to report the failure to Army Headquarters. The names of these men will then be published in the Gazette giving them a final chance to attend at a time and place stated, and failing their appearance, appropriate steps to compel attendance will be taken.
