TECHNICAL COLLEGE CONTROL

Education Board Concern

MEMBER PREDICTS MOVE FOR BREAKAWAY

Concern was expressed by members of the 'Wellington Education Board, at the monthly meeting yesterday, lest their control of the Wellington Technical College should be taken from (hem. Colonel T. AV. McDonald, one of the Education Board's representatives on

the Technical College Board of Governors moved that the last report of the Board of Governors of the Wellington Technical College should be laid on the board table for the information of members.

Speaking to his motion, Colonel McDonald said it was a strange thing how members of the Board of. Governors of the Technical College had been working to get into their own hands control of the college, which was vested in the Education Board. "If you don’t look out," he said, “you will lose everything. The whole of the lands on which the Technical College stands are still under control of the Crown. The whole of the administration and expenditure in connexion with the Technical College are being carried out without reference to the Education Board. This board started the Technical College, and we are letting slide all control. Desperate attempts have been made by successive directors of the Technical College to gain control of the college from the Education Board. We have been getting no reports from the Technical Board of Governors, and know nothing of what is going on. The motion was seconded by Mr. T. K. Moody.

Mr. J. J. Clark, the acting chairman, said that the position was exactly as had been stated by Colonel McDonald, ami he thanked that member for bringing the matter up. He felt sure that some steps would be taken before long by the Board of Governors of the Technical College to sever connexions with the Education Board. Colonel McDonald’s motion was carried ami he was authorized by the members of the board to watch their interests at meetings of the Board of Governors of the Technical College Board.
