The famous New Zealand singer, Air. Oscar Natzke, was married quietly in Auckland to Miss Winifred Clements, the Auckland soprano. Mr. Natzke, who is to begin a concert tour of the Dominion this week, is regarded as probably tlie finest bass singer the Empire has produced in the past decade, or even longer. He left Auckland in 1935 to undertake three years' study at the 'Trinity College of Music, London, under a. scholarship granted to him on the recommendation of Mr. Andersen Tyrer, examiner to the college, who had heard him in New Zealand in 1934. lie was awarded the Hammond Prize in 1937 as the best student and Inter look the leading role in the opera "The Serf." at Covent Garden. Mr. Natzke returned to New Zealand early last year for the centennial music festivals held in the principal centres under Mr. Tyrcr’s conductorship. Miss Clements made a notable success in tlie part of Huguette in "The Vagabond King" when it was produced by the Auckland Operatic Society in 1935. After an extended stayin Sydney she was chosen for tlie leading soprano role in the society's production of "Merrie England” last November, ami soon after took part in "The Messiah" in the Auckland Town Hall.
