Roosevelt Asks For Survey
WASHINGTON, February 12.
President Roosevelt requested the Maritime Commission to make a comprehensive survey of the' United States merchant marine in the light of rearmament and defence and also to make recommendations “regarding the acquisition of additional tonnage under foreign registry in order to meet the tonnage requirements for national defence and requests by other countries for assistance in obtaining additional tonnage."
