New American Planes Demonstrated

A demonstration at n Royal Air Force slation of type--’ ot ' American aircraft already in service with the R.A.F. left uo doubt in observers’ minds as to the excellence of their workmanship and iierformance. Of particular in.cresi are I'urliss Tomahawk .singleseater fighters which are reported to be a most useful acquisition to the lt.A.F.'s lighter strength. One Tomahawk had a sham but realistic ten minutes' dogfight with an improved type of Hurricane. The wing commander who piloted the Tomahawk said on his return that he was very pleased. li had no vices. was a manoeuvrable machine, and the rate ot elimb was excellent. Other American machines on view were a Curtiss Mohawk single-seater low wing monoplane, a Grumman midwing cantilever monoplane, a Brewster Buffalo, which is .somewhat similar. and a Douglas Boston twinengined bomber with a tricycle under-eai-riaeo
