CIVIL GUARD NO LONGER
Name Abandoned In Favour Of “E.P.S.”
At a meeting last night at the Central Fire Station of fire-fighting trainees from Hie Central, Ilataitai, Roseneath, and Kelburn sub-areas, it was announced that henceforth the name “Civil Guard” was to be abandoned, find E.P.S. used. Asked last night if this was an official decision, the mayor of Wellington, Air. Hislop, said Hi,-it it was. He explained that the official title of the organization throughout the country ha'd been fro.m its inception ‘‘Emergency Precaution Scheme.” He had introduced tlie name “Civil Guard” locally, considering that it would have greater appeal to Hie men themselves, but since they seemed to prefer the universally-accepted titles of “E.P.5.,” it had been decided to drop Hie alternative local name in favour of this.
