SEQUEL TO INCIDENT IN HOTEL
Hastings Man’s Death
Dominion Special Service.
NAPIER, February 13.
Tn returning an open verdict at an inquest into the death of Frank Bentley, aged 55, Hastings, who died on January 27, the coroner. Mr. Miller, S.M.. said the man was admitted to hospital following a scuffle in Hastings, and another man was subsequently charged in Court as a sequel..
“He came before me in the Magistrates’ Court,” said Air. Miller, “and I came to the conclusion then that there was insufficient evidence to put him on trial. No fresh evidence has come to light since, so the position remains the same, though the death of Bentley has opened the matter up again.”
A verdict was returned that Bentley died on January 27 in Napier Public Hospital from complications following an injured spinal cord received when be fell in the public bar of the Carlton Club Hotel. Haslings.
