GUNNER GOES UP WITH BARRAGE BALLOON

Hair-raising Accident

(Received February 12, 7 p.m.)

LONDON, February 11.

The inhabitants of a western town today were amazed to see a soldier, clinging to a. barrage balloon as it rose in the air. The adventure was the result of Gunner John Griffiths’s belief that the ballobn had broken from its moorings, whereas it was rising normally. Horrified, the balloon crew saw the soldier make an ascent of 2000 feet before they could master the balloon.

Griffiths twisted a rope round his waist and legs and gripped another rope by his teeth. He was brought down to the ground suffering only from shock and muscular strain.
