BETTER PROTECTION
British Shipping Lines In Mediterranean CAPTURE OF ENEMY BASES i British Official Wireless.) (Received February 12, 7 p.m.) RUGBY, February 11. One of the many important results of the British capture of Benghazi is the effect it will have on the control of sea communications in the Mediterranean. At the beginning of the Army of the Nile’s victorious campaign, when it was in Italian possession, British shipping was liable to be attacked from the air from the limit of the range of aircraft based in western ijrdlnia till it reached the eastern Mediterranean because of the existence of Italian aerodromes all along the coast. Now, not only will there be a reduction of the risk to British shipping by the Italian loss of such bases, but also the Royal Air Force will be able to give increased protection against the strong forces of Italian and German aircraft based in Sicily.
