Activities Of Units

Intimations of parades and reports of work being done by Home and Civil Guardsmen follow :—-

Karori. —Of the progress in strength and organization made by the Karori Home Guard, there will be good evidence n the unit's march through the district tonight. The band of the Wellington Regiment will head the march. Three

Home Guard companies will take pari-— A. B and Headquarters—and they will be followed by Civil Guard (E.P.S. I members. It is probable that members of the Women's Auxiliary will also participate. Lieutenant D. G. Bal! will be in charge of the parade, which will leave the Karori School al 7.30. The route will be along the main road to a point near Karori Park, then back to the school ■by way of Beauchamp. Venders ami Campbell Streets, Firth Terrace, Donald, Gipps, Duthie, Lancaster and Flors Streets.

Melrose-Houghton Valley.—A full muster turned out to the second paratie of the .Melrose-Houghton valley unit, of the Home Guard, held at Sutherland Park, Melrose. New recruits were enrolled, and many members joined the n.c.o. training class. An extra parade will be held on Sunday night beginning at 7.15. Members will fall in at the north end of Kingsford Smith Street. Rongolai. and will proceed from there to the Kilbirnie Kinema to hear an address by Hie Minister of National Service, Mr. Semple. The next training parade will be held at Sutherland Park on .Monday night, beginning at 7.30 o'clock. Following parades will be held alternately at Houghton \ alley and Sutherland Park.

Thorndon.— Men of the Thorndon district who have not yet enrolled in the Home or Civil Guards are invited to attend a parade which will be held on the grounds of fhornffim School tonight, beginning at 7 o’clock.

Kelburn.— li is reported that the KcJburn sub-area of the Home Guard eon. sists of 70 effective trainees—an increase J’f 1(1 enrolments in the past 10 days. Ihis weeks sub-area parade will take place tonight.

1 itahi Bay.— Mhile the Maori section was given platoon drill at the weekend, the main section of the Titahi Bay Home Guard unit hehl_ a field reconnaissance, covering important territory. With E.P.G. members, the Titahi Bay unit now has a roll number of about 100.

New Classification System,

new system of classification of the Home Guard is being introduced into certain sub-area companies. Instead of continuing training as at present, the guardsmen are to be divided into age groups. If believed that this change will facilitate training ami enable the younger and more active men to follow a more intensive syllabus.
