MELBOURNE, February 11
The Actings Prime Minister, Mr. Fadden, informed a Labour deputation today that the child endowment scheme would operate ou July 1 if Parliament passed the necessary legislation in the forthcoming session. He said the scheme would be financed by contributions from the employers, not tlie employees. It would apply to all children after the first. In a joint statement, approved by Mr. Fadden. tlie members of the deputation said an assurance had been given tliat tlie Government was sincere and definite in its desire to introduce the endowment and that the scheme would leave no doubts of its beneficial effects ou the family budget.
The present proposal is the payment of 5/- a week for each child after the first.
