AUXILIARY MUNITION WORKERS

Tlie response to the call for auxiliary munitions and metal workers in Auckland lias far exceeded that of any other par! of New Zealand, even when allowance is made for the population, and no difficulty is expected in securing all tin; men required, sai'd Mr. A. AV. Nisbet, organizer of emergency training for the Ministry of Supply, on his arrival from Wellington this morning. He stated that already the first 25 men had been selected for training, and a further sitting of tlie selection committee would be held in (he city tomorrow.
Following the decision of the Seddon Memorial Technical College Board to place the resources of the college at the ‘disposal of the Government for training purposes, added Mr. Nisbet, efforts were being made to secure the additional classroom space necessary .to enable the workshop to be used during the day by those undergoing training. Mr. Nisbet is conferring with the college authorities with a view to commencing the training course for the first batch of workers at Hie earliest possible moment.
So far no response has been received to the appeal t<> garage proprietors ami others who have lathes not lolly list'd to release these to tlie Government for training purposes. He said there must be dozens of suitable lathes Hint could be made available by their owners without undue sacrifice.
