A MAORI OCCASION
Gathering Of Tribes At Te Hauke Next Month
Dominion Special Service, HASTINGS, February 5. An influx of Maoris from other North Island tribes is expected at Te Hauke next month, and preparations are now being made for the accommodation and welfare of up to 200 visitors. The reason for the visit is that when on June 7 last Wikitoria Tahutahu Tareha, grandchild of the chief Teroera Tareha, AVaiohiki, was married to Ilopa Tepairiternngi, grandchild of the chief Tepair!, AVainiitua, Bay of Plenty, in the latter’s district, it was announced that the return visit to the Ngatikahungunu and Chief T’areha would take place this year, the bride and bridegroom paying their first call on the bride's parents and tribe. It is this visit for which plans are beingniade, and it is expected that the Tulioe tribe will be «ell represented and that there will be representatives from the Gisborne and Waikato areas and from other North Island tribes
