Figures For Britain Given

WASHINGTON, February 4
Referring in the House of Representatives to a report by Admiral Harold Stark, Chief of Naval Operations, Mr. Jonkman said Britain's merchant marine at the end of December was 17,679,000 tons, 261,965 tons greater than before the war. He said acquisitions during the war were 3,006,000 tons, against losses' of 2,744,000. The acquisitions included: New building 1,185,000 tons, captures 410,000 tons, requisitions (Danish and French) 698.000 tons, purchases 543,000.
He said the figures excluded Allied and neutral tonnage under charter, and in addition excluded tonnage laid up for repairs, which was estimated at J. 300,000 tons in September.
