GIFT OF SPITFIRE
Match Manufacturing Firm The firm of Bryant and May, Limited, match manufacturers, and its employees, has presented a Spitfire fighter to England’s fighting forces. In acknowledging the gift, the Minister of Aircraft Production. Lord Beaverbrook, wrote as follows to Sir Clarence Bartholomew, chairman of directors of the company:— “Dear Sir Clarence, —There could be no better example of the determination of the people of Great Britain and the Empire to scatter a barbarous foe than the gift which you send me; for it comes from all classes of the community, not. only in this country but overseas. "Your Spitfire will shortly join the squadron, and in the glory of its achievements you will all have your share. 1 send to you and all who contributed to your fund the expression of my warmest thanks. I am asking our public relations officer to get into touch with you in regard to the naming of your plane.”
The Horse Float Operators' Assoeiu lion states that the vehicle which met with an accident between Wairoa and Gisborne this week, resulting in serious injury to the horse Boatsong, was mi open lorry and not a liorsefloat.
