WILLKIE CONTINUES TOUR

Impressed With Spirit Of People (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 3. Liverpool dockers gave Mr. Wendell Willkie a warm welcome when he reached the city today in continuation of his tour. When Mr. Willkie visited the Cathedral the chairman of the Cathedral committee told him that the King during his last visit said: “Keep going, whatever you do.” “And it is what we are doing,” he added. Mr. Willkie also visited an aircraft factory in the north. _ He made a tour of the shops and talked with the workers. Going along a passage, he stopped in front of a worker and asked: “How do you feel here about this war?” “We know that if we work hard we are going to win,” said the worker. Mr. Willkie turned to the people with him and said: “That’s the spirit I find everywhere in this country.” He said that what he had seen of the bombed areas proved to him that this type of bombing was not accomplishing its end from an industrial point of view and was not shaking the resolution of the population. Instead, these attacks were increasing the population's resolution. At Manchester he said: “This is a war primarily of production, and the thing I am impressed with in this area is not what has been destroyed, but what is being produced.”
